The Addison Singers are joined by two pianists and a whole collection of unusual percussion as they go Latin American for their Spring Concert. A colourful programme inspired by the rhythms, colours and sounds of Central and South America, includes pieces by two of the most significant living composers from Latin America, Roberto Sierra and Osvaldo Golijov, as well as works by two composers from North America inspired by the exotic south - Eric Whitacre's setting of a tender poem by Octavia Paz, 'A Boy and a Girl' and Aaron Copland's vivacious 'Las Agachadas'. The Oratorio Choir sing 'Misa Criolla' by Ariel Ramirez, a synthesis of popular and liturgical styles, based on South American folk music, particularly the rhythms and melodies of Argentina and music by Constant Lambert, one of the most gifted British composers of his generation, equally gifted as a writer and conductor as well as being a composer. By far his best known piece, 'The Rio Grande' is a setting of a picture postcard poem by Sacheverell Sitwell, evoking a festival complete with dancers, tolling church bells and marching bands whose music is heard wafting through 'the soft Brazilian air'. Do come and join the Fiesta!
