November 22nd sees the Addison Singers 150 strong choir join forces with the Brandenburg Sinfonia and four excellent soloists for a performance of Verdi's monumental Requiem. Completed in 1874 in memory of the Italian writer and political activist Alexander Manzoni and often described as the 'greatest opera Verdi never wrote', there were critics who found the work too theatrical, but coming from the pen of Italy's leading composer of opera this might have come as no surprise. The composer makes full use of his large forces, producing a truly terrifying setting of the 'Dies Irae' and yet contrasts this with moments of incredible delicacy - a range of drama and emotion that soon made the piece a firm favourite of choirs and audiences all over the world. This promises to be a truly epic performance in the history of the Addison Singers !
