  • LCGC to Host International Choir Festival As Part their 30th Birthday Celebrations

One of the highlights of LCGC’s 30 year anniversary is the gathering of at least thirty choirs from all corners of the World to celebrate in London over the bank holiday weekend of 4 to 6 May 2013 with expert workshops, unique performance opportunities, a Guinness World Record challenge and a mega-concert at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre.

Southbank Centre will host this event as part of Chorus, its annual singing festival, which this year also heralds the opening of a summer-long Festival of Neighbourhood with MasterCard. Choirs from all over the world are preparing to make their journey to London for what can only be described as the Choral version of the Olympics. Countries already confirmed to attend include, France, Italy, Ireland, Spain, Sweden as well as choirs from all over the UK.

LCGC will perform a spectacular concert for all of the choirs taking part as well as members of the public who have been lucky to enough to purchase a ticket just for the Sunday concert. Expect Guest appearances from some of LCGC’s well-known friends, with whom they have performed over the last 30 years.

Another highlight of the concert will be a Guinness World Record attempt to break the record for the greatest number of people in a gospel choir singing together in concert conditions. The Current number is 1138 and at least 1200 voices are expected to participate. The songs chosen for the challenge are ‘O Happy Day’ and LCGC’s Anniversary single ‘Keep Moving’.

It will be the ultimate Birthday party for LCGC who are billed as ‘the nation’s favourite choir’, and it’s not hard to understand why when you hear their outstanding voices soar over rugby and football pitches, arenas and other venues across the world. Their vocal harmony singing has backed many a pop star too (Kylie Minogue, Annie Lennox, Madonna, Blur, Sting, P.Diddy, Eric Clapton, Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney and more recently Ellie Goulding, are just but a few of the names.

LCGC 30 Choir Festival weekend is an amazing opportunity for choirs as well as individual members of the public to get up close and personal with LCGC for expert tutorage, advice and performances as well as to be part of history in the making with the Guinness World Record attempt.
