Kantorei Set to Record First CD

  • 07.08.2011– St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Kansas City, MO--
Kansas City's newest professional choral ensemble begins preparation on July 24th for it's first ever recording project that will be released at the first of two Christmas concerts on December 17th, 2011. "Sweet Was the Song" will be an album of a Capella Christmas music. It will feature never before recorded Christmas carols by British composer Tim Porter, as well as Felix Mendelssohn's stunning and powerful op. 79, "Sechs Spruche." This song cycle outlines the Liturgical year starting with Christmas and ending in Advent. Rounding out the disc will be a selection of lovely Renaissance Christmas motets written for antiphonal double choir.

The recording will take place at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in Midtown Kansas City, MO. Kantorei has been granted the privilege of being the only outside group performing in KC's grandest church space. This 195 foot long, 70 foot high Nave has acoustics that are unparalleled in Kansas City. Josh Williams of BRC Audio said that he has "never heard anything like it. The quality of the sound is just as good 180 feet away as it is in the front row."

Kantorei is the brain-child of Artistic Director Chris Munce and his wife Beth Kakacek-Munce. The musical duo has been performing regularly in the KC Metro's finest choral ensembles for the past 8 years. "Kantorei is about an opportunity for the area's best singers and musicians to gather and perform unique programs of rarely heard music in a unique way. We have no conductor, so there is no back to the audience. You feel like your right there with us," Munce said. Visit Kantorei on Facebook to stay up to date on their most recent news and events.
