Street Requiem for & by the Casey community at Cranbourne Community Theatre on August 20th

  • Voices of Casey will present Street Requiem at Cranbourne Community Theatre on Saturday 20th August at 2pm.

Street Requiem, conceived by the creator of the School of Hard Knocks, Dr Jonathon Welch AM, and composed in collaboration with Dr Kathleen McGuire and Andy Payne, aims to bring a sense of peace, remembrance and hope to many communities struggling to come to terms with street violence and a loss of safety on our streets.

This wonderful, inspiring and indeed iconic work has now been performed extensively in Australia and also the US.   Later this year a community of singers will travel to New York, to perform Street Requiem at Carnegie Hall, New York.  Each performance though brings a new perspective, style and a special reality to the work.

On August 20th Street Requiem will be conducted by Jonathon, and will also feature Christine Butt and Izaac Lea as soloists.  Voices of Casey, will be joined by other choirs within the School of Hard Knocks family, Latrobe Valley Community Choir, THECHO!R and the Sing The World choir who will have singers taking part in the performance at Carnegie Hall performance.

Voices of Casey is part of the School of Hard Knocks choral program, the choir is conducted on Monday nights by the indefatigable Jonathon Welch.  Its members range from 18 through to 82 years of age!  Voices of Casey are an un-auditioned choir, brought together by a love of singing, fun, performing and sense of community.

Any money raised by this performance will go back into the community.  The generous support of the City of Casey, School of Hard Knocks, local businesses and service groups have helped Voices of Casey make this event happen!!

Tickets can be booked through the School of Hard Knocks website and are $25 adults / $22 conc. & U16.  The School’s website at http://schoolofhardknocks.org.au/sohk/ also gives further information about the wonderful initiatives and programs run by the School.
