Fabulous Singers Festivals in Brisbane and Melbourne, June 2016

  • “Unforgettable experiences, not just a festival”

The School of Hard Knocks is thrilled to present both the Brisbane International Singers Festival, from 3 to 5 June AND the Melbourne International Singers Festival, from 10 to 13 June 2016

Dr Jonathon Welch AM, creator and founding Artistic Director of the School of Hard Knocks said these will be "wonderful weekends of song and singing, workshops, masterclasses, rehearsals, performances, learning and friendships, made and renewed.  We invite and warmly welcome all singers whether they are experienced or novice, sing in a choir, ensemble as a solo performer or just in the shower!”

This will be the seventh consecutive year that the Melbourne International Singers Festival has been held and we are excited to also offer the inaugural Brisbane International Singers Festival.

Kirby Shaw, from USA, the legendary master of popular, jazz and swing choral music will be our headline presenter with his extraordinary workshops and concerts to prepare and will conduct his own arrangements in ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’

Singers will also have the opportunity to participate in fabulous workshops with Jonathon and Dr Kathleen McGuire, renowned composer and conductor at both Festivals.

The Melbourne International Singers Festival has a very proud history of featuring new contemporary Australian music and composers.  We are following this tradition and will perform the extended version of two of the School of Hard Knocks original and ground-breaking works in Melbourne and Brisbane.

    • Street Requiem in memory of those who have died on innocent on our streets, conceived by Jonathon, and composed in collaboration with Kathleen and Director of Curriculum for the School of Hard Knocks, Andy Payne

    AND

    • No Excuses! singing out against domestic violence composed by Dr Kathleen McGuire and Christina Green.

Early Bird registrations for both Festivals are available until 15 April. Check our website www.schoolofhardknocks.org.au for details about each Festival and to register.

Proceeds, from both Festivals, will support the School of Hard Knocks, which was launched in 2012 as an extension of the work created by Jonathon with the award winning Choir of Hard Knocks in 2006, to empower marginalised and vulnerable Australians through the arts.  The School delivers over 50,000 hours of arts and community music programs to over 3,500 Australians and offers programs in Victoria, Queensland and has recently commenced in regional New South Wales.
